Street Fighter Article List Warrior’s Fist

The following is a list of the articles for the Warrior’s Fist, which is a translation of Punho do Guerreiro, a Brazilian fanzine for the Street Fighter RPG (SFRPG). Due to how many articles there are, it has become hard to remember which issue contains a particular idea, so I started databasing them. I am half way through adding article tags to the database, but it is not finished yet. A spreadsheet summary will suffice for now. 🙂 (Some of the English editions have not yet been updated to the newer epic layout, hence why some articles have different page numbers than the Brazilian version.)

Warrior’s Fist 22 Street Fighter Translation

Here is another translation of Punho do Guerreiro, a Brazilian fanzine for Street Fighter RPG (SFRPG).

A major idea for the system is a new basic maneuver Taunt! This month’s Circuit Legend is from Kengan Ashura: Ohma Tokita. Plus an interesting new background: Body Control.

Mortal Kombat for Street Fighter RPG

Here is the translation of Mortal Kombat for Street Fighter RPG (SFRPG), the original work was by Eric Henrique “Musashi” de Souza, also an editor of Punho do Guerreiro (Warrior’s Fist). This fan supplement has an impressive amount of work, 52 pages of lore, backgrounds, character stats and ideas.

Eric informed me that the work probably goes back to 2002, but as it has been updated over the years, so it is hard to recall the exact start date. What is extra impressive to me is that the project predates the Mortal Kombat wiki, which apparently goes back to 2006, so Eric could only draw upon information from the first 3 games. Eric also used an interview that Ed Boon gave in 1997, just before Mortal Kombat 4 was released, to expand on game details. Like many large franchises, the MK setting has been tweaked many times, with some major retcons, so please keep this in mind when reading this supplement. The supplement’s focus is Mortal Kombat 1 to 3, but it could certainly be useful to someone wanting to run a SFRPG chronicle aiming at the later MK games.

Consider adding temporary Outworld portals to your chronicle, whether just Kabuki Town focused, or multiple places throughout Earth; a chronicle about a race to prevent global disaster. Or maybe lowering the threat and power scale of Outworld residents, consider making the Outworld fighters natives to Earth or a pocket realm. Imagine the complex webs of espionage the PCs have to navigate if there are more global rivals to Shadaloo. When the enemy of your enemy is Shao Khan or Shang Tsung, is a team up even advisable? Which organisation should be defeated first? So many possibilities!

Update: the supplement has been updated 20 March 21, read the details. Or go ahead and download: MKSFRPG Link. Plus Bruno “Giryu” Barbosa created some Mortal Kombat arenas.

Warrior’s Fist Special 07 Street Fighter Translation

Here is another translation of Punho do Guerreiro, a Brazilian fanzine for Street Fighter RPG (SFRPG).

This special takes a deep dive in to Anime, covering many ideas from numerous Anime, and how they can be used in SFRPG. A look at Street Fighters in the World of Darkness, or Chronicles of Darkness, would they become a special type of hunter?

The Maneuver of the Month: Pluck Hair. The Circuit Legend is the special Tiger Robocop and his Kabuki Town arena. Lastly, the addition of the Dojo background, updating an old idea.

Casting Shadows

I probably should have written about this decades ago, but I didn’t. If I had written it when I first thought of it, it would have been in a notebook. If I had later transcribed it when it seemed more important than it does now, that would probably have been as a WordPerfect document for my MS-DOS machine or worse, PFS Write. In the intervening years a lot has been said on the topic, and given my reach and interests, it likely would not have gone anywhere or accomplished anything of value. I don’t care about being an originator or being first. I do care about seeing clearly and being a part of sharing useful perspectives and information. Why am I writing it now? For the most part, it feels like it is time to have my thoughts out of my head in a place where I can see them…

Warrior’s Fist 21 Street Fighter Translation

Here is another translation of Punho do Guerreiro, a Brazilian fanzine for Street Fighter RPG (SFRPG). Thank you to the original team for their hard work. 🙂

This issue presents the idea of simplifying things in regards to needing to fill in a PC’s Staff or Sensei’s character sheet. Improvised Weapons: Throwing Obstacles! Another look at Ages and Worlds in Conflict, plus character sheets for Li Mu Bai from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, including Green Destiny, and Conan the Cimmerian(Barbarian); some impressive stats, they both love their weapons! 😉

Firearm rules: Firearm maneuvers and weapon stats. School of Combos IV provides templates for beginning characters, suggesting good combos for them. This month’s maneuver is the useful and cheap Subdue. The Circuit Legend is Amanda Nunes! In closing, an interesting article looking at reducing the amount of Fighting Styles in SFRPG.

Sources of Magick Review

TL;DR: A high-quality book that perfectly adds to Mage, plus the World of Darkness (see below). Consider this a core book.

Given the vast scope of Mage, there are so many topics that have not received the deep-dive that they could really do with; a classic Mage problem, but also an understandable one considering the scope of the game. This supplement wonderfully expands upon Nodes, Resonance, and Quintessence, but that would be too simple and so it is great that the author, Charles Siegel, also examines Tass & Ley Lines. The book’s information is clearly presented and thorough, whilst avoiding swamping the game with extra complexity. For example: the rotes are helpfully listed in subsections, making it easy to find a rote relating to a specific topic.

The supplement’s opening is strong, explaining why the book was created. The next topic is a key question in Mage, The Nature of Nodes. It provides us with 13 theories about nodes via a paradigm P.o.V., something that will empower most games. The theories also cover how an individual’s viewpoints, might influence the ways they’d handle a node in relation to the Ascension War, as well as other types of Nightfolk; whether to defend, abandon, or destroy a node. Giving Nodes Resonance, plus other mystical aspects, helps emphasize both the metaphysics of the setting, as well as why some Factions may miss, dismiss, or prioritize a location. All-in-all this first section alone makes this book a must have for any Storyteller, providing a web of ideas to help make the Ascension War easier to grasp. The paradigm overview is a substantial source for enhancing in character discussions/debates.

The node building section matches the mechanical approach of Mage: the Ascension, so it should feel straightforward, intuitive even. How a node relates to the other Nightfolk was a welcome addition, giving the book a bigger scope than just Mage, in particular Werewolf, Changeling and Wraith. The 32 examples are splendid, plus demonstrate how this supplement’s new system works. The nodes are interesting locations to add to any game, covering a wealth of factions, plus the bonus that some have tremendous historical importance. There are so many great ideas here, but I want to avoid spoilers, so I’ll just touch on a few.

One can imagine the countless stories covering millennia over control of The Delphic Oracle! Likewise, the more modern node of The Manhattan Reactor is a great idea, plus adding to the Technocratic Union’s dark history.

Nodes specifically involving other Nightfolk? Well there is the superb, The Blood Fountain of the Tremere, which gives an epic plotline to tie-in Vampire: adding a literal landmark to the Massasa War. The Silent Sept gave me pause as I processed several thoughts and feelings about what this story; if I reveal that it relates to the Croatan Tribe, players in the know will appreciate this node’s gravitas!

If you are a World of Darkness player, in particular if you have a bit of an interest in Mage, I think you will benefit and enjoy this outstanding book. One of the benefits of the Storytellers Vault is the numerous interesting niche topics that can be explored, but this is no niche. For me, this supplement feels like a core book, standing alongside the official products, a must have, especially given its low cost.
